In the past few years, bars and pubs are sprouting up like weeds as it seems. With so many choices (literally hundreds) in just downtown Bangkok, how does one choose the venue for a night?
Here are my top 5 bars that I have tried and would suggest to you all and the good news is that there is something for everyone – by atmosphere and cost.

Zuma

A contemporary Japanese restaurant with a chic and sophisticated long-bar that sits partially inside and the other half, outside. Located on the ground floor of The St. Regis Bangkok Hotel, Ratchadamri Road, Zuma is the sixth of its kind in the world.
Atmosphere: Elegant, chic, contemporary and relaxed
Signature drink: Rubabu – Rhubarb infused sake, house vodka, fresh passion fruit pulp, lemon juice

Above Eleven

Probably one of the best places for a nice night out with friends and loved ones, Above Eleven is a rooftop bar & restaurant on the 33rd floor of the Fraser Suites in the exciting Sukhumvit Soi 11.
Atmosphere: Classy, rooftop/outdoor,
Signature drink: Pisco sour, Chilcano and Zakura
Price: Has something for everyone. As they categorize their menu between “sorry love, I’m on a budget” to “I’ve got it and I want to flaunt it”.

AmBar

Another exciting, yet relaxed rooftop bar, located on the 8th floor of Four Points by Sheraton in Sukhimvit soi 15. The bar has great promotions every month and takes part in almost every local and international event such as Songkran, Halloween, Christmas and New Years. Make sure you like their Facebook page to keep updated about all their promotions.

New York Gardens (V8 American Diner)

New York Gardens is an outdoor seating area that belongs to V8 American Diner and is also home to sunrise tacos (between Times Square and Sukhimvit soi 12). Now I have a double mind about this place because the service, food and drinks are inconsistent. Sometimes the staff is super friendly while other times they forget you and are quite rude. I’ve had one of the best long islands and mai–tais there but also one of the worst. Why would I recommend it then? The value for money! The best thing you can do is get the VIP V8 card that allows you to save 10% on any spending. So on a rainy day, if you’ve collected let’s say, a 1000 points, well you can spend that as 1000 Baht on food and drinks!

Signature drink/food: Mai Tai or LIT/Chili Cheese Burger
Price: Affordable and value for money

Bombay Blues

Although a bit dim and gloomy from the outside, Bombay Blues is the place to be as it is full of excitement, friendly staff and music that will get you dancing all night. If you are looking for a crazy and fun night, definitely drop by Bombay Blues, either at Khao Sarn or at the 3rd floor of Opus building in Thonglo soi 10.
